Hi folks,

We did hike up to Mt. Washington last Saturday and thanks for your guys' tips! [h]

We went up from Ammonousuc trail, after passing lake of the cloud hut, up to the summit through Crawford pass. Going up was sort of easier than I thought, maybe because the weather was cool - it took us a little bit more than 4 hours. I was extra happy that although it rained a bit above tree line, when we got to the summit, the weather was pretty nice and the view was great! Going down was tougher than I thought, we went down from the Jewel trail which is a little longer. It started to rain and the trail was really rocky - we were So relieved when we finally made to the parking lot!

It was a great experience and it is worth the trouble! My two cents to who are interested in this are:
Water-proof jacket, pants and boots are strongly suggested, the weather could change so much in a day - you are miserable when wet;
Hiking poles are very helpful going up, we used our ski poles and they worked too;
Extra protection on your knee and ankles are suggested, esp. going down;
and the most important, think positive and you can do it if well-prepared! support

Too bad you guys didn't join us this time, it would be fun!

I'd like go hiking there again sometime during the fall foilage - I heard hiking Mt. Adams has good view because there was fire years ago and trees were burned down...

Good luck if you want to do Mt. Washington!

BTW, you can stop by the outlet stores in North Conway like we did yesterday - a lot of good deals!! wink

Great job, Peachleaf. [^] [^] [^] Mt. Washington is not an easy hike at all! I'll go there this month. Any more tips?

Where is this store? What kind of good stuff did you get?

If you drive on Rt. 16 between North Conway and Conway, you won't miss it. A lot of stores - we got hiking boots from Timberland and a big pile of different bowels and plates from P.....graff ($.99 each)!! [h]

Forgot to mention that a pair of gloves (preferable water-proof) would be useful in case of rain and cold - my hands got really cold hiking in the rain!
