I believe that the discount realty broker are making the real estate market confused. I myself am not a real estate broker, but from my own experience, for most first time home buyers, not knowing what you trying to buy is the biggest issue. I did not see a lot of realtors working very well with their client on this issue, of cause, it is also a really tough job to do so.
Well, making your $500,000 investment on a house, do you really care about $1000? Finding the right house at the right price might be better than $1000 discount... The consumers will get hurt at the end, because the discount realtor does not care about the price, the service.
For all the investment, you have to make a decision whether you really need professional help/service. Good luck all,
