Any hikers will go skiing this weekend? If none, it's time to discuss our plan of snow-hiking seriously. How about we go this Saturday?

BTW, I'm culturing a very special cell line which needs to be fed everyday so I can only join one day trip.

happy

oops oops oops

In White Mountain area, there are some options for hiking to the summit and then skiing down by another trail. People have done that before. You guys can give it a try Laughing

serious, you guys should decide the trail ASAP.

snowshoes or crampon are very likely required based on the weatherforecast.

this saturday will be cold, and snow... good for skiing, not very great for hiking in the wilderness.

Thanks for your support! rose

Forecast says it will snow on Saturday, so if we go this weekend we have to go on Sunday. Otherwise, we will postpone.

How many people can make this Sunday? Please share your opinion. If you like to go but prefer another time, please say it too...

About trails, Greentea suggested:

Mt. Pierce and Mt. Jackson

This is done by taking the Crawford Path to its junction with the Webster Cliff Trail, then following that trail over Mt. Pierce to Mt. Jackson, and descending by the Jackson branch of the Webster-Jackson Trail. The loop, in either direction is 8.3 miles, 2,650 feet, 5:30. The section between Mizpah hut and the summit of Pierce is steep and rough. The two trails have have separate trailheads, but they are so close together that there is no need for a second car.

Mt. Jackson and Mt. Webster

Doing these two peaks by the Webster-Jackson trail (in either direction) is a classic loop (6.5 miles, 2,500 feet, 4:30). Mt. Webster is not a 4,000 footer, but it has great views into Crawford Notch

There are some other choices:
If we don't want to drive too far away (which I am a little afraid oops ), we can go to Blue Hills and hike all the peaks, or there is a Middlessex wells reservation trail just around Medford supposed to be a little tougher (1500ft gain, 7 miles). Or somewhere in soutern NH like Mt. Mondonock...

If you have any idea about trail, please share!
(I remember LM posted some trail info before, but couldn't find them...)

How about postpone to next week?

If there is big snow this Saturday, we need to break the trail on Sunday, which is time and engergy consuming.

Hiking on this sunday will be very streneous. I don't know if we are strong enough for 3 mountains. (around 10 miles)

The reason:
snow will be deep, and it will be very cold on Sunday. Considering the rain and snow this week, trail may be icy.
