Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA is at the center of the Cape and at the heart of its arts. The museum exhibits the work of historic and contemporary artists who have been influenced by the Cape and Islands environment, its people, and their exchange of artistic ideas. The Whaling Museum, celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary, is a "must see" experience. Featured exhibitions include the candle factory; Gosnell hall, presenting the skeleton of a forty-six foot sperm whale, a thirty-foot whale boat, whaling tools, and captains' portraits; a room dedicated to island life during the whaling era, a state-of-the art decorative-arts gallery featuring the Nantucket Historical Association's world-renowned collection of scrimshaw. There is a children's discovery room on the first floor of the candle factory, and a fully accessible rooftop observation deck overlooking Nantucket Harbor.
